Background
Tiaki Engineering Consultants was commissioned by Bridge It NZ to design, detail, and secure consent for a 30-metre Pony Truss bridge with a clear width of 2.4 metres. The design needed to adhere to the Tracks and Outdoor Visitor Structures Manual (SNZ HB 8630:2004), to ensure it could withstand pedestrian loads of 5kPa. Additionally, the client required the bridge to be capable of safely supporting light vehicles. The bridge also carries essential service infrastructure, including a 300NB firemain, a 150NB potable water line, and two 125NB steel sleeves reserved for future services.
Objectives and Constraints
The Client specifically requested a structure that was that is not only functional but aesthetically pleasing and in keeping with with the surrounding natural landscape.
Outcomes
TECL, in collaboration with Bridge It NZ, successfully delivered a precision-engineered bridge, within budget and in line with the Client’s expectations. The result is a visually appealing, functional structure designed to serve the community reliably for the next 100 years.
