Eden Crescent Boardwalk and Bridge Concept

Tiaki’s structural team designed a new 16m x 3m upright steel truss bridge utilising timber piles and timber decking, and a 32m x 3m timber beam, and timber decked boardwalk. The bridge crosses the main stream channel within the Carmichael Reserve, while the boardwalk crosses the adjacent stormwater pond, providing safe and accessible pedestrian and cyclist access from the Eden Crescent residential subdivision. The project meets the Tauranga City Councils requirements for a durable yet attractive reserve structure.

The design accommodates a wide range of users with the balusters designed for safe cycling as the wider Carmichael Reserve forms part of the Tauranga City’s extensive cycle trail network.    Due to its location within the managed floodplain area, consideration was given to the bridge height in relation to the surrounding ground features and modelled flood heights. This design caters for potential submergence during extreme rainfall events.
