Bridge It NZ
Background
Bridge It NZ’s client had three farming units that were separated by the Oraka Stream. Access between the blocks was limited, and the Farmer needed a solution that would allow him to run the property as a single unit. A new bridge crossing the stream was the chosen solution. It needed to provide all-weather access for staff, stock and machinery, whilst achieving compliance with relevant Regional Plan requirements.
Tiaki Engineering Consultations (TECL) were responsible for the design and consenting of a new 18m concrete bridge with timber retaining. The new bridge is specifically designed to handle light traffic loadings to suit the requirements of on-farm use. Precast concrete beams meant a quick installation and the use of timber retaining allowed the bridge’s foundations to be set well back from the stream channel, minimising any adverse effects on the environment. A duct was incorporated to provide a convenient route for transporting piped services across the bridge. This bridge was constructed in under two weeks by the Bridge It team.
