TECL was engaged by our Client to design, detail and consent a multispan bridge over the mighty Waipoa river, Gisborne. An old “cableway” structure was typically used for hauling kiwifruit out from the orchard, while an instream crossing was used for most other access to the site. A bridge was therefore considered to unlock the land’s potential and to improve business operation and safety.
The bridge comprises 3 x 32m spans utilising bored and cased single stem concrete piles/Piers supporting precast concrete crossheads that receive two 1.2m deep steel beams all with precast concrete deck panels over.
Year-round access to the orchards is now enjoyed by the Client and all its workers without interruptions.
